Ask a girl what she's looking for in a man and odds are that, if not the #1 response, her top 10 includes “A guy that can make me laugh”. An answer so culturally pervasive it exists in that nether region of bias between complete bullshit and established fact. To be sure there are plenty relationship use cases to support the claim, but there are just as many funny guys out there delivering their punchlines into a sock that would argue this assertion. However, unlike the Miracle Bra, this isn't a devious female deception.

Everyone likes to laugh and being that most relationships are based on how the other person makes us feel, it's a safe assume that if she's laughing you're making her feel good. But as with most everything in the world of animal attraction there's more to what turns us on than what turns us on. Funny goes beyond just chicks loving a good chuckle. It goes cavman survival of the species deep.

First, and most obvious, a quick wit is a sign of a highly developed intelligence and good smarts means a higher chance of survival in a competitive environment. Also, to be funny you need to put yourself in the spotlight which is a demonstration of confidence and adaptability While this "confidence" is often merely a front for deep insecurities it's still a very handy for survival.

In the female primal lizard brain all this equates to good breeding stock.

There are obviously many factors in human attraction, especially in complex societies, however from my observations men with a good sense of humor account for the majority of aesthetically mismatched relationships. Meaning guys that are 6′s and under with women that are 8′s and up. For all the lonely doubting comedians; there are always exceptions to the rules and maybe you're not as funny as you think.

What about humor and literal sex?

I personally recommend you save your best material for the bedroom. Most most guys prefer laughter and their nakedness not ever occur simultaneously but those guys are missing out on what I call The Chuckle Fuck.

You won't find this bit of advice in many Sex How-To Guides, but getting a belly laugh from a girl while having sex – particularly if she’s on top – results in some amazing sensations for both involved. You can get a similar effect by making her cry but that's not very nice but I don't judge.
